A PS4 Pro owner has built a custom water-cooling system for said console that’s good enough to be classified as next-gen. The Pro is, of course, one of the most impressive pieces of gaming technology available right now, but that’s not always enough to leave it operating smoothly under the conditions some of last year’s bigger games puts it through.
Console users have ways and means of getting their devices to run better, better meaning not as hot. Simply keeping your console dust free could go a long way into lengthening its lifespan, but there are certain folk who won’t risk the simple route.

Then there are people like YouTuber and Reddit user JMAGG, who go above and beyond to make things not only look cool but… well, cool, really. JMAGG, who has gotten lots of plaudits since showing his work off on Reddit this week, managed to fit a water-cooling system with a 2TB HD and some sweet lighting to his Pro.
As you’d imagine, he’d never be able to get all of that inside a PS4 pro given the size, but there’s really no need to close something that looks this great anyway.
“Yes I know it’s unnecessary but I think it is cool,” he wrote on Reddit. “I also hope this video helps people who would like to use a PC power supply to power their PS4.”
JMAGG also shared YouTube videos and schematics detailing the process, which he says cost him $1,000 and took three weeks to complete.
Given the cost mentioned, it’s no wonder Sony isn’t into building such systems even if they could quite easily. Easily, yes. Cheaply? No.
At this point, there’s still a lot that we don’t know about the upcoming PS5 but it would be very safe to wager against a state-of-the-art water-cooling system.
Last week, Bloomberg reported that Sony was struggling to keep the console’s price down due to certain manufacturing parts being too costly. The publication also claimed that the company will have to sell units at $450 so it doesn’t incur too great of a loss.
So yeah, if you want water cooling, you’re probably going to have to do it yourself.
