Inquisitive early adopters of the PlayStation VR have discovered that you can actually use the headset as a display for other HDMI devices such as the Xbox One, Wii U and a PC.

First spotted by a Japanese blog and posted on Reddit, then checked out by Ars Technica, it appears PS VR will default to a cinematic view mode which displays the connected source material, complete with sound via the PS VR headphone jack.

You’ll get a large screen experience, albeit at a lower visual quality than your TV will probably be offering, but you won’t get any kind of VR experience. To be clear the PS VR is simply functioning as a display, so you won’t be able to experience PC-based VR titles.

It will be interesting to see if any PC modders can enable some form of tracking via the PlayStation camera.
