It looks like Xbox will be flexing its charity muscle from now until the beginning of Spring. As per IGN, the company will be matching donations to a veterans’ charity dollar for dollar until a goal is reached.

Until March 31st, Xbox will be matching donations to a charity known as OSD, which is a charity focused on helping veterans stay connected with the community at large through gaming and other forms of morale boost. The goal is to reach $250,000 in donations from aware gamers, meaning that donations would ultimately total to $500,000.

Thus far, the fundraising campaign has reached $318 in donations, which means that $636 has been raised in total so far.

A bit more information is provided on the XBOX $250,000 Matching Gift Challenge. As stated previously, the fundraiser will be held until March 31, 2020. Further, the donations will help provide the aforementioned morale boosts to deployed troops internationally. Such provisions of morale boost include video and tabletop games, coffee, and other products.

In the U.S., donations made to OSD will help provide community centers partnered with OSD with “gear and activations.”

Overall, it this fundraiser will likely be received as very uplifting. When it comes to causes, Microsoft and Xbox have been very friendly toward contributing where they can. For instance, Gears 5 was applauded for its accessibility-friendly mechanics.

Of course, historically, numerous companies have participated in fundraising efforts for a multitude of causes. Most recently, the Australian wildfires inspired a number of gaming publishers and developers to raise money for fighting the fires and for the rescue of wildlife. For example, over a month ago, Bungie started raising money for the wildfires via purchased Destiny 2 merchandise. Furthermore, the Outback Relief pack in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Humble’s Fire Relief Bundle, and indie developer Crytivo’s donations all contributed to helping Australia in its effort to halt the wildfires.

As gathered from the above examples and the donations from Xbox, more and more gaming entities are contributing to the common good in a number of efforts. These include efforts related to natural disasters, accessibility, and charity for veterans. Hopefully, actions like these will continue to raise awareness among concerned gamers and companies going forward.
