The average selling price of an Xbox One console bundle has fallen from £454 to £316 since January 2014, according to new figures revealed by GAME.
The change in the average selling prices of PS4 and Xbox One bundles was detailed in the retailer’s latest financial results, revealing a £138 drop in the Xbox One’s average selling price between January 2014 and March 2015.
Despite the 30 percent drop, however, Xbox One has held the higher average price point throughout the majority of the two consoles’ lifetimes, only falling below PS4 last month.
The removal of Kinect and £349 price cut last May didn’t appear to have an major, immediate effect on the average selling price, either, with the price hovering around £380 until September.
PS4, meanwhile, has remained relatively flat throughout the 15-month period, selling on average for £364 in January before peaking at £381 in June. The console currently has an average selling price of £334 – £18 higher than Xbox One.
It did fall to £312 in December, however – the lowest average price point of either console.
GAME cites increased level of competition, Black Friday sales and “increasing number of desirable games being included within the bundles” as the reason for a reduction in the consoles’ average selling price.
