Today is Wednesday. The day that calls the middle of the work week its home. Some people aren’t so fond of Wednesdays, but me, I love them. As most of you may already know, it’s the day of the week that the Xbox 360 gets new DLC and Xbox Live Arcade games. So what do we have this week?

Chime

Developer: Zoë Mode

Publisher: OneBigGame

Simply put, Chime is a combination of Tetris and Lumines. It uses blocks that appear to be the brothers or sisters of the ones used in Tetris. You arrange the blocks on a grid to create “quads,” or more simply, square/rectangles and the like. These “quads” are converted into “coverage” each time they are swept over. The goal of the game is to build up your coverage as much as possible before time runs out. The game includes time limit and free play modes, which can be played on multiple stages. The music is very calming, and the overall experience is a very relaxing one.

That being said, the big note that Chime has struck this week is that the bulk of its proceeds will go to charity. OneBigGame is a new non-profit organization that distributes games to make money for different charitable organizations. Chime is their first release. Their mission statement is as follows:

Also, just a friendly reminder that Twisted Pixel’s latest game, ‘Splosion Man, is on sale for 400 Microsoft Points. That’s half price people, and for such a fantastic platformer, there isn’t much of an excuse to not have it (that is, if you’re into that type of game). It’s a hilarious game, and is just pure platforming fun. The deal lasts until February 7th.

OneBigGame helps children in need through the creative & collective power of the videogames industry.

It is a charitable organization that seeks to raise money to solve problems afflicting children everywhere, by creating videogames through a collaborative industry-wide effort. By doing so, it connects both gamers and games creators with the charitable cause and shows how the videogames industry as a whole can have a positive effect on the lives of children throughout the world.
