As part of the ongoing Mirosoft X10 event, Remedy Entertainment have released a new trailer for the upcoming psychological-action-thriller Alan Wake and boy, does it look good.
Watch and enjoy:
There’s only one word to describe a trailer like that; Wow. I’m not one to normally comment on a game’s graphics - to me, they’re not an intrinsic part of the experience, they merely supplement the gameplay mechanics - but… Wow. The PS3 may have Heavy Rain and Uncharted 2 to boast its graphical prowess, but Alan Wake is not going down without a fight. It simply looks gorgeous.
Of course, it would be ridiculous for me to finish there - Graphics do not make or break a game. The gameplay mechanics, as well as the story, have to be considered.
Thankfully, the trailer puts all my fears to rest. Having seen Remedy re-invent ‘Bullet Time’ to such a degree in Max Payne, and pull it off with aplomb, the new mechanic of ‘Light-Dark’ gameplay looks incredibly exciting and set to toy with the player’s psyche–something I’m relishing. And what more could be said about the theatrical style of the trailer? If the entire game keeps me as engrossed with the story as I was within those few minutes, then Remedy are clearly onto a winner. May can’t come soon enough.
What do you think of the trailer?
Alan Wake is due for publication May 18th (USA) and May 21st (EU) 2010, exclusively on the Xbox 360.
