One of the easiest things to do in The Witcher 3 (so long as one knows where to go) is resetting Geralt’s skills. Maybe the player has chosen something they either didn’t want or didn’t quite like over time or maybe it’s simply wanting a complete reset following the endgame. There are a ton of skills, from swordplay to alchemy, while leveling up for those skill points is an absolute grind. Fortunately, all one needs is the Potion of Clearance, which can be found on a number of different characters, but mainly Novigrad on a relatively obscure merchant.
The player will have to first finish the Magic Lamp quest alongside Kiera Metz, one among many of Geralt’s love interests. When returning to her hut for the mission An Invitation From Kiera Metz, politely ask to examine her wares. The potion of clearance will be at the top of the list as a green bottle for 1,000 crowns, but will only be available from her for a limited time. If one is already far ahead in the game, fast travel to St. Gregory’s Bridge.
Dead center of the map, where the St. Gregory’s Bridge fast travel is located, the player will find the unnamed merchant. One will have to maneuver through the often dangerous streets of Novigrad to find the shop, though it’s relatively simple. The player will have to indulge the merchant in a dialogue about several artifacts before he’s prepared to sell anything, but like Kiera Metz, it will cost 1,000 crowns.
Other characters who will sell the Potion of Clearance to Geralt include the Germist (who requires the completion of the Practicum in Advanced Alchemy quest) and Yolar (a cave-dwelling alchemist found west of Gedyneith fast travel), both of which can be accessed after arriving in Skellige.
There’s also the Perfumery Merchant, as well as Herbalists in Castel Ravello, Coronata Vineyard (following its rescue), and one east of Lazare Largue. These four require the Blood and Wine DLC, as they are located in the Duchy of Toussaint, which itself is a little tricky getting to. Make sure to be at least level 31 before proceeding with Blood and Wine.
The Herbalist in Castel Ravello has 5 on her, though why one would need more than 1 is unclear. Drink just a single bottle by pressing square in Geralt’s inventory with the potion highlighted and all of Geralt’s hard-earned skill points will be gifted back to the player to incrementally redistribute. Ensure the skill wipe with a save game, perhaps? One never knows if they want to return to a prior character build. It’s always safe to save when making drastic changes like this.
Said Potion of Clearance is such a necessity it’s a base item given to the player when starting a New Game+ in order to give all skills a chance. It’s among the many ways to make Geralt overpowered in The Witcher 3, as testing each varied ability will allow players to grasp the full potential of Geralt’s combat effectiveness.
