The Call of Duty series and its Zombies mode have gone hand in hand for some time – but many fans are wondering if the popular horde mode will make an appearance in Modern Warfare 2.

If you’re somehow unfamiliar – the mode sees a squad of players go up against hordes of the undead and similar ghouls. Over the years, it’s expanded from the simple round based survival to almost an entire second game.

If you’re here wondering if Zombies mode will make an appearance in Modern Warfare 2, we’ve got some good and bad news for you.

Will MW2 have zombies mode?

At the time of writing Modern Warfare 2 will not have a Zombies mode. While disappointing, this was somewhat expected – the mode is usually saved for the Treyarch led entries, and Modern Warfare 2’s lead studio is Infinity Ward.

However, there’s good news for those of you looking for some co-operative shooting action. It’s been confirmed that MW2 will have quite a few options for you, including the return of Special Ops mode – and more.

During the Call of Duty Next event, it was confirmed that Special Ops will comprise of an “in-depth two player cooperative experience allowing you to explore large-scale hot zones with your fellow squadmate.” The mode will be available on the launch of Modern Warfare 2, on October 28.

Then, after launch there’s even more to get excited about – later this year, we’ve been promised Raids. They’re brand new for Call of Duty, and will be three-player operations.

While details are slight – we’re told they’ll require “teamwork and strategic, puzzle-solving thinking in-between bouts of intense combat.

So there you have it. While there won’t be any Zombies mode, you can rest assured that there’ll still be plenty of co-op action on offer when Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 arrives on October 28.
