Wii U TVii, an entertainment service that lets Wii U owners use the GamePad as a second screen to browse information about TV shows, films and sports currently broadcasting on cable and satellite channels, has seen its European launch cancelled after Nintendo admitted to struggling with the complexities of the project.
“At Nintendo of Europe, we continue to challenge ourselves to develop a range of entertaining experiences for all to enjoy,” reads a statement posted by Nintendo of Europe. “Due to the extremely complex nature of localising multiple television services across a diverse range of countries with varied licensing systems, regrettably we have taken the decision not to launch the Nintendo TVii service within the European region.
“Although on this occasion we did not anticipate such challenges, we will always strive to develop a range of entertaining experiences for all our users to enjoy.”
The statement points users towards the recently launched Nintendo Anime Channel for Nintendo 3DS, offering access to series including Pokémon, Kirby, and Inazuma Eleven.
Nintendo originally intended to launch TVii in Europe in 2013 following an earlier launch in the US, Canada and Japan.
