The New Xbox One Experience update is available to download now – but Xbox 360 games won’t be made backwards compatible until 8pm GMT tonight, according to an update from Microsoft. In a blog posted on Major Nelson’s website, Microsoft explained that “regardless of when you receive the New Xbox One Experience system update, the Xbox One Backward Compatibility feature will begin rolling out starting at 3:01pm/12:01 PM (noon) PT on November 12th....

Xbox 360 backwards compatibility is coming to Xbox One, Microsoft has announced. The service will launch with over 100 backwards-compatible titles this holiday, with “hundreds more” to be added in the months to come. Both digital and disc-based Xbox 360 titles will work on the console, with digital titles showing up automatically in your Xbox One game library. To play disc-based games, you need to insert the disc into your Xbox One and – by the sounds of it – download a digital copy....

Firaxis and 2K have revealed the, by the looks of things, pretty beefy expansion for XCOM 2. War of the Chosen will release for PC, Xbox One and PS4 on August 29, only a couple of months away. The Chosen in question are new alien heroes tasked with recapturing the Commander. The Assassin, the Hunter and the Warlock have different personalities and skills, and become stronger even as you do. Formidable adversaries indeed....

A new report reveals how much YouTube paid Activision Blizzard for the exclusive streaming rights to the Overwatch League, Call of Duty League, and Hearthstone tournaments. The deal is worth nearly twice as much as the $90 million Twitch paid for Overwatch League streaming rights two years ago. The Esports Observer cites anonymous sources who claim that YouTube paid Activision Blizzard $160 million for the rights to stream the company’s esports events for the next three years....

Despite the idea sounding like an impossible dream mashup straight out of the 1990s, prolific modder Kaze Emanuar has successfully turned the Super Mario 64 level Shifting Sand Land into an original, playable The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time dungeon. And the best part is that it can be downloaded and played now. The player character is the young version of Link, who controls like he did in Ocarina of Time, including the weapons, items, and mechanics one would expect of a Zelda game....

Zombie Army 4: Dead War launched earlier this year, bringing more zombie slaying action from developer Rebellion. While we thought the game was a bit too similar to its predecessors, support is still coming well into next year for the game. In a development update video, Rebellion has detailed what’s to come for season 2 and season 3 of Zombie Army 4: Dead War. The WWE is jumping out of the ring and into Fall Guys, Fortnite, and Rocket League. On July 28, these three games will receive a variety of new characters, skins, and emotes. These new updates are part of the Epic SummerSlam, a collaboration between Epic Games and the WWE. The event will see all the biggest WWE stars coming to Epic’s most popular games. Those who are worried about the Call of Duty series being yanked away from PlayStation platforms can rest easy, according to the latest statement by Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer. These worries have been sparked over the past few months by Microsoft’s deal to acquire Activision Blizzard, including the Call of Duty franchise. Xbox boss Phil Spencer has defended his Microsoft Studios and upcoming games for Xbox One against accusations that Sony is doing a better job at bringing titles to its customers. “When I look at this year, I’ll just take the E3 conferences… we showed four big games launching exclusively on Xbox One and Windows 10,” said Spencer. “When I think about Gears, Forza Horizon, ReCore, Dead Rising 4 – all of those games are launching this year and they’ve been announced, there are dates next to them,” perhaps referencing Sony’s lack of 2016 releases featured in its conference....

Mike Ybarra, corporate vice president of Xbox Live, Xbox Game Pass and Mixer, announced that he has left Microsoft after two decades spent working with the tech giant (via Video Games Chronicle). In his announcement on Twitter, he expressed his gratitude for the opportunities and experiences he gained from Microsoft. ‘It’s been a great ride at Xbox and the future is bright,’ he said. ‘Thanks to everyone at TeamXbox, I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished and I wish you the best....

It’s been quite a while since we’ve heard anything from upcoming FromSoftware and George R.R. Martin collaboration Elden Ring, and sadly it looks like we’ll be waiting a little while longer as Xbox’s Aaron Greenberg has shot down rumours we could finally be getting more news on the game later this month. Greenberg was responding on Twitter to a news story on DualShockers that claimed a new trailer would be shown off at an as-yet-unconfirmed “What’s New for Gaming” event Xbox is reportedly set to hold on March 23....

The company broke the news in a message shared to users of its Xbox app on iOS and Android (thanks Windows Central), noting that Xbox features will cease to function on Windows Phone devices starting on 16th May this year....
