Many gamers will remember pumping quarter after quarter into X-Men Arcade in their local burger joint or video arcade. The machine gobbled up money as players haphazardly pounded on the mutant power button draining their life, and subsequently their playtime. Despite being a short game, X-Men Arcade was a challenging button masher that allowed up to six people to crowd around the cabinet. Now, with the release of X-Men Arcade on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network, players are once again greeted by Magneto’s infamous line, “Welcome to Die” — except, this time, gamers are equipped with infinite credits and online co-operative play....

Xbox has announced that it is launching a new program to allow developers to have their games validated against the platform’s Xbox Accessibility Guidelines to give them the feedback they need to ensure their games can be enjoyed by as many people as possible. The announcement came in an Xbox Wire post entitled ‘The Future of Game Accessibility on Xbox’ where the company’s Senior Program Manager of Gaming Accessibility Brannon Zahand announced that developers can now have the option of sending Microsoft their Xbox or PC games and have it analysed and validated against the recommendations provided in the Xbox Accessibility Guidelines — a set of rules and best practices created in 2019 and rolled out last year to help developers understand issues and potential pitfalls that gamers with disabilities may find challenging when playing their games....

Today NIS America announced the release date of the PS5 port of Nihon Falcom’s popular JRPG Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana. The game will launch on Sony’s newest console on November 15th in North America. As usual, European fans will have to wait a little longer, with a release date for the Old Continent set for November 18. The port was originally announced by NIS America back in March, during the latest livestream of the New Game+ Expo....

Microsoft has officially announced that Windows 11 will begin rolling out officially to eligible PCs starting from October 5, 2021. The latest version of the PC operating system will first be available as a free upgrade for eligible Windows 10 PCs and pre-installed on new machines. The operating system was revealed back in June and promises to be the “best Windows ever for gaming.” As per the Windows blog, there’s several features that Microsoft intend to help meet this claim....

Wizards of the Coast has apologised for its handling of its Dungeons & Dragons Open Gaming License (OGL) revisions, which caused a huge community backlash over the past week. Details of planned revisions for an OGL 1.1 were leaked by Gizmodo, and Wizards of the Coast was immediately faced with an orchestrated pushback by fans and prominent community members over rule changes which would, among other things, require anyone making money through the use of D&D elements to report earnings to the company....

Microsoft will lift the veil on its long-rumoured Xbox One S All-Digital console tomorrow, according to German website Winfuture. The new system, which gives the boot to a traditional disc drive in favour of digital-only goods, is apparently going to ship with a 1TB hard drive and three pre-loaded games: Forza Horizon 3, Minecraft, and Sea of Thieves. The Xbox One S All-Digital will reportedly retail for €229. Microsoft is hosting its latest Inside Xbox showcase tomorrow, so this is presumably when the format holder will be talking about the new system....

Rockstar Games has announced that it will bring three titles to Xbox One’s backwards compatibility lineup next week. Celebrated crime romp Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is leading the charge, and you’ll be able to pick from the original Xbox version or the spruced up Xbox 360 edition. Also on the cards is Midnight Club: Los Angeles, the turbo-charged racer from 2008, which will arrive on Microsoft’s bulky box in both its original and Complete Edition incarnations....

When the original Yooka-Laylee released, the reaction was divisive. While I thought it was a good game, many were disappointed by the fact that it adhered so closely to the games it was meant to imitate. Many were even more disappointed that it didn’t reach the same heights that its progenitors did. Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair similarly wears its influences on its sleeve. But does it offer something new, or will the people who were annoyed the last time around find the same things to complain about?...

The Dark Magician Girl is one of the most iconic Yu-Gi-Oh! cards in series history. It is one of Yugi Muto’s ace cards, debuting in the Battle City arc of the anime. She has come in handy for Yugi time and time again, saving him from some pretty tough situations. She was also sometimes not a monster and was just an actual character for some reason every once in a while because literally who knows?...

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is one of the strangest entries in its franchise. A direct sequel to Ocarina of Time, the game that set the foundation for modern 3D action, Majora’s Mask was not epic in scope, was not particularly long, and did not follow the same structure as its critically lauded predecessor. And it’s still one of the best games of all time. Majora’s Mask doesn’t so much build off of Ocarina of Time as it does twist it....

Remember a decade ago when zombie games were really cool? Back then, we had the likes of Left 4 Dead, Dead Rising, and Call of Duty‘s ever-popular “Nazi Zombies” mode. Zombies were absolutely huge in popular culture, but the allure has died down substantially since. Rebellion Development’s Zombie Army series is one of the last remaining relics of that era, and the Sniper Elite spin-off is looking to breathe new life into this decrepit genre with Zombie Army 4: Dead War....

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was finally released on Friday, Nov. 11, with the plot exploring grief, sadness, and legacy, while also being a beautiful goodbye letter to Chadwick Boseman and the character he represented on-screen, King T’Challa. The film is a fight between the Wakandans and the Talokans, with the United States also in play, as they want to find Vibranium for themselves. That’s when Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) gets involved....

Brock Lesnar will feature as the cover star for WWE 2K17 when it releases on PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PS3 on October 11, 2K has announced. That’s the same day as Gears of War 4. Miller will be pleased. “My career has been defined by dominating every opportunity presented to me,” said Brock Lesnar. “I am excited for my newest opportunity representing WWE 2K17 as the franchise’s ambassador and honored to serve as the WWE 2K17 cover Superstar....

Xbox has announced the next batch of games available for Xbox Game Pass subscribers for the month of August. Kicking off from today, subscribers will be able to dive right into talking simulator Coffee Talk on Cloud, Console and PC. This will be followed on August 23 with Midnight Fight Express, an isometric brawler with a Hotline Miami vibe. August 25 sees two more games added to the catalogue. Namely puzzle game Exapunks on PC and visual novel Opus: Echo of Starsong – Full Bloom Edition on Console and PC....

My theory of Microsoft announcing the next wave of Game Pass games every week took a bit of a stumble. And that’s because the company revealed the first batch of October games, well, today, three weeks after the last announcement. We can’t all be winners in the game of life. Still, we now know what’s coming to Xbox Game Pass for PC in October 2021. Back 4 Blood was already confirmed along with The Good Life, but we’re also getting the horror game Visage — perfect for Halloween scares....

In the chaotic flurry of game announcements during last night’s The Game Awards, you may have missed the changes coming to Game Pass. Microsoft revealed in a rather musical trailer that Xbox Game Pass for PC has dropped the ‘Xbox.’ Now, the service for PC users is just PC Game Pass. Frankly, it’s a good change, as it reduces any confusion with the console name. Microsoft doesn’t appear keen on using the Xbox name as a universal brand across its services....
