It’s been quite a long time since I used a recent Xbox Controller. Sega has announced (via Gematsu) that it’s holding a press conference for the new Yakuza game starring Ichiban Kasuga on August 24, at the UDX Theater, in Akihabara. Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is also inviting Japanese fans to attend the press conference. All they need to do is follow the studio’s Twitter account and retweet this tweet; alternatively, Yakuza Online players can fill out this form if they wish to throw their names in the hat....

The update 12.11 patch for Escape from Tarkov has finally released. This means that a large player base of the game will flock back to EFT to explore everything new that the update has to offer. The head of Microsoft Game Studios, Matt Booty, recently revealed the possibility of its next console, Project Scarlett, comprising the largest selection of games available for any console at launch, due to its backward compatibility with previous Xbox console games. Also as of late, Sony has also been emphasizing backward compatibility features in its next console as well, as both Project Scarlett and PS5 are slated to launch near the end of next year....

Netflix’s That ’90s Show has been a great love letter to fans of That ’70s Show. The spin-off brings back almost all of the major characters from the original, with some having larger roles than others. Of course, there was and is the glaring issue of whether or not Steven Hyde actor Danny Masterson would be involved. The actor has had highly publicized legal issues which went to trial in 2022....

WWE 2K20 has had a slow and sluggish start. From numerous bugs mentioned in our official review to silly crashes once the new year hit (a game called WWE 2K20 that didn’t work once it’s 2020), Visual Concepts had to churn out more patches to keep the game stable. And, of course, there were also DLCs that mostly added cosmetic content. There will be another round tomorrow. That’s when WWE 2K20‘s patch 1....

Microsoft added two new games to its Xbox Game Pass game subscription service, but some fans aren’t happy. It had added three other games to Xbox Game Pass earlier in the month, such as Final Fantasy XV, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, and the beta for Ninja Theory’s new game Bleeding Edge. On Twitter, Xbox Game Pass confirmed that there is one new game for subscribers on console to enjoy and one new game for PC subscribers....

The coronavirus has been quite a destructive force in the gaming industry during these past few weeks, from conference cancellations to much more. Yakuza’s Kazuma Kiryu has stood against many formidable foes throughout the series, many of whom have been brutally beaten by his all-powerful Tiger Drop ability. Nevertheless, due to this move’s unmatched talents, it has transcended into another video game series with a recent Twitter debate that places God of War’s Kratos against the legendary fourth chairman of the Tojo Clan. In this debate, Yakuza fans have claimed that Kratos doesn’t stand a chance against Kiryu’s Tiger Drop....

UPDATE: A bunch of new details have come to light. According to IGN, Judge Eyes places a heavy emphasis on storytelling, with players controlling Takayuki Yagami; a lawyer-turned-detective on the case of a string of murders. It’ll feature daft minigames and plenty of punchy combat, so it sounds like it’ll have a few things in common with Yakuza. However, Judge Eyes also incorporates investigation sequences that require you to identify suspects, before tailing them and taking snapshots....

In a sad epitaph to what was once a groundbreaking franchise, the last film of 20th Century Fox’s X-Men movie saga suffered a final indignity: it’s been labeled the biggest flop of 2019. Indeed, internet industry trade site, Deadline, released its annual postmortem on the previous year’s box office this week. And at the top of its list of box office failures is Simon Kinberg’s Dark Phoenix. According to Deadline, Fox, and thereby their new owners at The Walt Disney Company, took a $133 million bath on what was intended to be a franchise course correction after the disappointing (but still profitable) X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016....

Xbox’s Phil Spencer and Matt Booty have been speaking on the rise of live service games, and said that though they are getting more common, there’s still plenty of room for traditional narrative experiences too on Xbox consoles. The two were speaking in an interview with The Guardian, where Spencer claimed there were still plenty of more traditional games still to come. “I think we’re probably building more of those now than we’ve been in the history of Xbox,” he said....

Gotham Knights really does kill off Batman, its developer has told fans at San Diego Comic-Con. Some fans had suspected the game - which sees you playing as Bat sidekicks Robin, Red Hood, Nightwing and Batgirl following the apparent demise of the Dark Knight - would somehow fake Bat’s death so he could return later. But that won’t be the case, creative director Patrick Redding said during a Q&A attended by IGN....

Nintendo has finally added to the Switch’s online streaming capabilities. Yesterday, the company officially announced that a YouTube app was available for the Nintendo Switch. The YouTube app joins Hulu in regards to the device’s online video streaming options. The announcement came days after rumors began surfacing from forum users on the sites of ResetEra and NintenHome, saying that they were coming across suggestions for a YouTube app while searching for games on Nintendo’s website....
