Hello! With Elden Rings almost upon us, we’re making this week Souls Week on Eurogamer. Over the next few days we’ll be picking over From Software’s astonishing games - and the astonishing games they have inspired. To kick things off we’re lucky to have this lovely piece from Jason Killingsworth, who is the founder and creative director of publisher Tune & Fairweather. Overwatch 2 has received poor feedback from fans since its release regarding the lack of free-to-earn cosmetics and the low number of Overwatch Coins earned through completing the Battle Pass and Challenges. Recently, there’s been some hints that Blizzard may be working to fix this negative issue in future updates of the game. Wolfstride is a narrative-driven, mech-battling anime adventure that features an excellent cast with a mysterious backstory. It’s also got a whole lot of attitude. Sometimes it feels more like reading manga than playing a game. And this is wonderful, because the character interactions are superb. But sometimes they can get a little preachy, and all you want is to just hop in your giant mech and smash some metal faces....

One of the first announcements made about WWE 2K20 was that the game would see the return of the 2K Towers mode, launching with one based on WWE superstar Roman Reigns. Now we have a little bit more information on the Roman Reigns 2K Tower, including its official name, as well as some of the wrestlers players will have to fight to complete the Tower. In a new video focusing on the Roman Reigns 2K Tower in WWE 2K20, 2K Sports reveals that the tower is called Roman’s Reign....

Microsoft has this fantastic wee programme called the Xbox Design Lab, which allows you to create custom Xbox One controllers for £70 a throw. The programme, up until now, has only been available in limited number of countries, but that’s all going to change. Microsoft has announced that it’s expanding its program by 24 European countries from August 22. From tomorrow, the following countries will be able to order their own unique custom controller (or even purchase someone else’s designs) through their local language websites: #XboxDesignLab is expanding across 24 new European countries....

Xbox boss Phil Spencer has reiterated that Microsoft has no plans to raise the price of its consoles - after Sony stunned fans last month by hiking the price of PlayStation 5. Speaking overnight to CNBC, Spencer noted the current economic issues many were facing, and said Xbox didn’t think it “was the right move for us at this point” to follow suit. “In a time when our customers are more economically challenged and uncertain than ever, we don’t think it’s the right move for us at this point to be raising prices on our consoles,” Spencer said....

New consoles will be here by the end of the year, and that means that there will be a new standard for gaming performance above and beyond the limits set by current mainstream hardware. As much as new consoles will enable another level of complexity in game design, they also will set the de-facto upper limit for video game technology for several years to come. Any developer who wants their product to be available to as many consumers as possible will need to make sure their game runs on the next generation of consoles for the foreseeable future....

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair was first announced back in June as the sequel to the 2017 original retro platformer. Today, developer Playtonic Games and publisher Team17 announced a release date, set for Oct. 8. The game is now available for preorder on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The announcement includes a release date trailer, which you can see below. The trailer also confirms the return of “tonics,” which are “game-modifying potions” that the protagonists could guzzle up in the original game....

The Xbox Insider community will be testing out new message safety settings for the Xbox One this month prior to a public release in the near future. The new optional messaging filtering system will feature four tiers of filtration levels to hide everything from light trash talk to deeply offensive language, while also giving gamers the option to only apply these filters to people outside their friends list, or only apply them to videos, images, and animated content they receive....

Yakuza series producer Daisuke Sato has dashed hopes of seeing the punchy gangster franchise come to Nintendo Switch. Speaking during an interview with Gameblog (via Nintendo Everything), Sato-san pointed to the failure of Yakuza 1 & 2 for the Wii U as the reason why Sega is hesistant about bringing the franchise to Ninty’s hybrid powerhouse. He did, however, offer a glimmer of hope in regards to Yakuza punching its way onto the Xbox One....

Another exciting announcement from Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe this week! The main protagonist from the popular manga and anime series Yu -Gi -Oh! is joining the roster of Jump Force. Sadly, we don’t have too many details to reveal to you beyond the tweet from Bandai Namco. They also shared the screenshot of Yami Yugi in the game. We are awaiting an official trailer release. Yugi from Yu-Gi-Oh! joins the fray in JUMP FORCE!...

Nintendo’s Eiji Aonuma has revealed that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will not be placed on the series’ sprawling timeline. Speaking in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Creating a Champion, Aonuma-san revealed that solidifying the critically acclaimed adventure game on the timeline would eliminate the sense of imagination for players, whereby they can make up their own mind about where the game falls in the wider universe....

It’s often discussed how the golden age of mature, adult-oriented fantasy has come about in the last decade or so. As Microsoft’s “What’s next for Windows” event draws closer, two new screenshots from Windows 11 have made their way online.
