The Simpsons: Hit & Run is often remembered as the quintessential Simpsons game. This is with good reason especially when it is compared to its predecessors such as Road Rage, and Wrestling and Skateboarding, all of which failed in their core mechanics and left players unimpressed. The Simpsons: Hit & Run, on the other hand, excelled at its level designs that allowed players to wander freely, its missions that had cars race around Springfield, and its solid premise which could have almost made it to an actual Simpsons episode....

Valve’s upcoming VR-exclusive Half-Life: Alyx will mark the first time in thirteen years that an official Half-Life game will be released by the developer. The creators of the historic first-person shooter have been extremely cagey about the possibility of Half-Life 3, with the last Half-Life 2 writer on the Valve team’s departure from the company in 2017 signaling that the fabled game may never come to be. But as the new game’s release draws closer, a faint glimmer of hope for a third numbered entry in the series has returned....

Wizards of the Coast has apologised for a Dungeons & Dragons update that included “offensive material” and racial stereotypes about a race called Hadozee. The company said it had “failed you, our players and our fans”, would remove the offensive material “effective immediately”, and stated that it was “truly sorry”. “We wanted to acknowledge and own the inclusion of offensive material within our recent Spelljammer: Adventures in Space content. We failed you, our players and our fans, and we are truly sorry,” the company said in a statement....

Wolfstride reminds me, in a powerful but rather hard to pin down way, of Invitation to Love, the make-believe soap opera that everyone’s watching in the first season of Twin Peaks. I’ve heard the game described as an anime like Cowboy Bebop, or even an actual soap opera, and that’s true. But there’s a freedom here, a willingness to contain chaos and clashing elements, that outstrips even the wilder animes or least rigorous soap....

Xbox has unveiled the next set of titles coming to the Xbox Game Pass service subscribers can get their hands on for the remainder of July 2021. It’s quite the eclectic mix of genres this month, kicking off with Battlefield V which is available via the Cloud from today along with JRPG Cris Tales on Console, Cloud and PC. On July 22 roguelike bullet-hell Atomicrops arrives on Console, Cloud and PC, along with Raji: An Ancient Epic and Last Stop....

Microsoft has confirmed that it will host an Xbox Games Showcase Extended stream, after the Xbox and Bethesda stream, on June 14th. According to a blog post from Microsoft, we can expect “share new trailers, take deeper looks at the news from the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase and speak with some of your favorite game creators.” The new broadcast will be about ninety minutes in length. It is going out on Tuesday, June 14th, at 17:00 UK time....

Yakuza series producer Daisuke Sato has revealed that the development team isn’t ruling out bringing Yakuza 3, 4 and 5 to PlayStation 4 at some point. Speaking with PlayStation Access, Sato-san said that Sega would consider overhauling the punchy action-RPGs for Sony’s latest telly box, although as expected there would have to be sufficient demand for them to see the light of day. Nothing has been confirmed at this point, so it could go either way....

Yu Suzuki, the creator of Shenmue, has said that, if he were to make Shenmue 4, he would want it to appeal to newcomers. Suzuki spoke to IGN Japan (thanks VGC), at a Shenmue celebration in Yokosuka. He talked about Shenmue 3, and about what his approach would be for a sequel—if one were to happen. According to a report from Famitsu, Suzuki spoke about the way that Shenmue 3 was created as fan service....

Players who were refused a refund of Fallout 76 by Bethesda will now be able to claim their money back, as the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission decreed it was ‘likely to have contravened the Australian Consumer Law.’ As you may have surmised, these refunds only apply to Australian consumers. ZeniMax – the holding company that owns Bethesda – had told players that they did not qualify for a refund even after they had complained of ‘problems with the servers, lagging, graphic and visual problems’....

Borderlands could be vastly improved by giving it even a basic crafting system. We get it, Borderlands. You’re all about looting and shooting. You shoot the big bad over and over again so you can harvest that phat loot. The more times you do it, the more loot you get. Every Borderlands end-game is just finding the most efficient way to harvest loot through murder. And that’s fine, but it’s also a bit underhanded....

Long running wriggly warfare series Worms makes its debut on Nintendo Switch next week as Team 17 has announced the release date for Worms W.M.D as next week, specifically November 23. As previously revealed back in August, the Switch version of the game contains all the bombastic explosive action in both local and online multiplayer, and you’ll be able to use any mix of controllers including the Joy-Con and the Pro Controller, even going so far as to allow up to six players via the pass-the-console option....

Today 2K Games and Visual Concepts released a new trailer about the upcoming wrestling game WWE 2K22. The trailer introduces four wrestlers from the SmackDown brand, Cesaro, Drew Gulak, Humberto Carrillo, and Sami Zayn. You can check the video out below. Xbox must work to “better meet expectations”, boss Phil Spencer has said, reflecting on yesterday’s bombshell delay of both Starfield and Redfall.
